  • How to recognize the Scam - Part 2

    Recognizing the Scam:

As mentioned in Part 1 most of the scams (i.e., email, inheritance, money transfers, claiming of money for deceased, lotteries, etc.) are easy. Most of them are usually not directed to any one email address (the TO field is blank) or say the TO field will say "undisclosed-recipients". Some may even have your valid email address but again, be careful. They are after your money and give you nothing in return.

The Romance Scam is one that the scammer will find an unsuspecting victim and start chatting by means of Yahoo or MSN. They will often request use of a webcam but will not have one of their own. They will provide photos that are stolen from either a professional model site, a web model site, or some other obscure site where the can access photos.

If you do go into a chat watch the use of English used. It will not be fluent and be sometimes hard to understand. You may have to ask to have a statement repeated. If they state they are from the US they may not give appropriate answers to queries that they should know.

There are many, many warning signs that you are talking to a scammer. If you are in doubt, or you have any questions, do the research. Use the search engines to search their email addresses. Search for the Romance Scam websites. Above all - Protect Yourself !!! Remember if it sounds too good to be true, then it is. You may be involved in a scam.

    Be careful and be safe.

  • Will the SCAMS ever stop?

A Warning to all People Here!!!

I have enjoyed all of the WebLog postings and there have been some very sad ones and amusing ones as well. There is a subject that has not been addressed that I think needs to be brought up because the trend seems to be on the rise and can affect everyone if caution is not taken.

What I am talking about is the increased influx of email scams, lottery scams, inheritance scams, and romance scams (the BIGGIE). You see I got hit by one of these and I am paying the price for it each day. Even through my attempts to be cautious and do my research, I lost the battle. So I am posting this so that I may help others to avoid the same situations.

So where do they start? The major places seem to be dating sites (i.e. Match.com), social network sites (MySpace, Facebook, Quetchup, etc.), and even Yahoo and MSN. Their targets are usually middle aged men and women but not limited to them. Eventually, if asked, they will send out photos that you will swear are the real thing, but some will use photos used by models. These are the easiest to detect. The others will come from obscure websites. This makes them hard to find.

Who are these "scammers"? Most of them come out of Nigeria. These scammers will pose as male or female depending on their victims but most will be males. They usually start out slow because they have a goal and they may take months to reach that goal. The "GOAL"? To win your trust, your belief, your love, and then your money. Sad to mention but even the Public Officials may be involved with the process.

Since this is my very first blog post I will end it here. Tomorrow Part 2, "How to Recognize the SCAM" .

Tomorrow is Memorial Day. Please take time to remember our active and fallen troops.
